Horse racing rules

The main laws in force in the organization of horse races. Participants, riders, coaches, positions, rules of disqualification.

1) Before the race, each horse must show itself for inspection before the start.
2) The participant can start after waving the flag, from the kiosk or from the gate.

The official who supervises the races is called the steward.

Other persons:
1) Secretary. He is in charge of the track, planning and tackling the race.
2) Handicapper. Prepares extra weight for handicap races.
3) Weigher. Responsible for weighing race participants.
4) Judge. Announces the final result of the race.
5) Beginner. The race “starts”.

Rules for horses


1) The age of a horse is usually counted from January 1 of the year when he was born, and not from the moment of his birth.
2) A horse can work on a flat track from two years old and not earlier.
3) On tracks with low hurdles, a horse may not work earlier than three years.
4) On tracks with high hurdles, a horse may not work earlier than four years.
5) It is not allowed to use hoods to blind the horses.
6) The name of a horse for racing must not be more than eighteen letters.

Disqualification laws for horse racing

1) If a participant in a race collides with another participant during the race, she has the right to be disqualified.
2) A participant in a race can also be disqualified in the event of illegal actions by her rider.
3) The horse is disqualified, whose rider is less than after weighing before the start.
4) A participant who stops listening to the commands before the start of the race is subject to disqualification.

Jockey positions during horse racing
